The proposed 4000 Megawatt thermal power station, which is to be set up at Damacharla mandal, Nalgonda district in Telangana will soon get forest clearance, Environmental Minister Prakash Javadekar said.

Minister said that this initiative will boost the power production in the newly formed state, which is already facing power shortage. Ever since it has been bifurcated from the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, the state has fallen into deep power crisis.

"For Telangana, power is a very important need. And right from the days of agitation (for creation of separate state) we were stressing for sufficient power," Prakash Javadekar told to the reporters.

Minister also said the Telangana Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhara Rao met him last month to discuss about the project. The state government has already done the necessary documentary work, and waiting for the nod from central government.

He said, “Telangana government did the necessary preparatory work on setting up the power station by stating that it will give equal extent of land elsewhere for the reserve forest (where the power plant is proposed) to be acquired.”

He reassured central government’s support to both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states, as both of them require a ‘special attention’ from the central government.
