In the next 5 years, construction and real estate sector would witness a huge surge in demand for human resources. With the government push to create “housing for all” and creation of smart cities with better infrastructure, this sector will have to see a huge deficit in demand and supply of manpower. Reports suggest India would need around 76 million labour force in the building, construction and real estate sector by 2022 and is predicted to be the key job creator.

However, this sector has its own problem when it comes to providing proper employment. The major drawback is it is highly unorganized. Most the human force required is in skill-based jobs and cater to a huge migrant population. More than 80% manpower involved in construction and infrastructure sector is minimally skilled. This is creating a huge shortage of talent, which in turn is having a negative impact on the industry by incrementing the project cost and risks.

There are also a number of infrastructure projects which are in the queue. 432 projects worth Rs 6.5 trillion (nearly Rs 6.5 lakh crore) dedicated for roads are in pipeline, more than 400 projects worth Rs 6 trillion (nearly Rs 6 lakh crore) in railways are marked, 70 projects worth Rs 670 billion (67,000 crores) is dedicated to development of airports and around 75 projects worth Rs 551 billion (Rs 55100 crore) is sanctioned for ports.

This huge demand calls for organized job boards like Naukri.com, Monster.com, Shine.com, Jobaap.com etc., to come out with strategies to create better talent pools to meet the demand. Also, companies should come together to develop the human index and work towards developing a better talent pool.

Indian construction industry currently requires General Construction Workers, Construction Managers, Blue-Collar Workers Supervisor, Civil Engineers, Cement Masons, Construction Helpers, Construction Inspectors, Carpenters, Construction and Well Drillers. The construction industry also creates several ancillary jobs like Light and Heavy Truck Drivers, Cost Estimators, Line Installers and Repairers, Heavy Equipment Operators, Material Moving Machine Operators, Mechanic and Repairer Helpers, Operating Engineers, Plumbers and Pipefitters and Structural Metal Workers etc. Please visit www.jobaap.com for more jobs related to construction industry.
