The Central government, which is on a mission to boost construction and infrastructure activity in India, has asked the state governments and the local bodies to be more proactive in issuing construction permits to the builders and real estate developers. Centre has expressed deep displeasure over how local bodies are delaying issuing the construction permits.
The Central government has seen this as a major hurdle in getting FDI into the construction sector in India. The union ministry of urban development (MoUD) has issued directives in this regard to the state and local bodies to speed up the approval procedures, and increase the ease of doing business.
India stood at the 183rd place among 189 countries in the area of ‘ease of doing business’. Urban development ministry has also released a circular recently, asking the state and local bodies to introduce a web-based single window clearance system for the construction projects.
Centre has given similar directives to the environmental, forest, defence and civil aviation departments. It also asked the state governments to send a comprehensive report on what steps they have taken to simplify the procedure of issuing construction permits.
