PM inaugurates the Kochi Metro- a marvel of Engineering
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday arrived in Kerala to inaugurate the Kochi Metro. He has flagged off the commercial operation of the metro rail service. He took the first metro ride along with CM Vijayan, Union Minister Venkiah Naidu and “Metro Man” E Sreedharan.
He took a ride from Palarivattom to Pathadippalam. Kochi metro project mentor E Sreedharan, known as ‘Metro Man,’ was the principal advisor to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, was also present for the inauguration.
PM Modi welcomed and addressed the crowd in Kochi. He unveiled a commemorative flag to inaugurate Kochi Metro. Kochi Metro one Card was also launched at the event. The card can be used for all the stations for cashless travels. It can be also used for commercial transactions at metro stations like debit cards. The CM Pinarayi Vijayan launched Kochi One mobile application to help commuters in stay connected to metro rail timings, to check out different routes and places in and around metro station. Addressing the crowd, Vijayan said the state and centre have worked hand in hand for the project. He also thanked workers from around the country that made the Kochi Metro possible.
Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that in order to reduce traffic congestion, we need to move towards public transport. Kochi Metro head Elias George said, “Metro has been built within deadline and budget. Kochi Metro recorded the construction of its first phase in record time. It is the longest first phase metro operation but was compleed within 45 months.
